"Always A Diva"
Since the passing of The Godfather of Soul, James Brown, the hardest working man in show business, nobody has been as busy as 2009,
2010,2011 and 2012 Salute to Philly Boxers Matchmaker of the Year, Renee Aiken—a fixture at almost every boxing event on the east coast.
Over the past 15 years Aiken has blazed a trail throughout the boxing world working for several promoters in different major cities in the
United States and out of the country including St. Marten and the island of Turks and Caicos. To say that her services are in demand is an
understatement because promoters of the sweet science cannot get enough of this erudite, charming, meticulous, caring and
consummate professional.
In addition to matchmaking Aiken is also adept at most facets of promotions including handling media requests, interviews, travel,
and sponsorship. She learned all the intricacies of media production by working as an Assistant Producer with Ira Glass, former Producer
and Director of Don King Productions and now Vice-President of Events Broadcasting at Adversary Sports & Entertainment Company.
Hailing from Queens, New York, Aiken began her career as Corrections Officer for the New York City Department of Corrections where
she worked for twenty years before retiring in 2004. Upon turning in her badge as a Corrections Officer in 2004, she landed a job as a
personal assistant for heavyweight contender, Monte “Two Gunz” Barrett. Aiken flourished in this role because of her tremendous
organizational skills, enormous personality and attention to detail. During her tenure, Barrett would fight Hasim Rahman for the interim
WBC heavyweight championship in 2005, losing a twelve-round decision.
Relocating to Delaware in 2006, Aiken met boxing promoter and matchmaker Nick Tiberi and the rest is history. While assisting Tiberi
she fell in love with matchmaking and realized that she had found her niche. Aiken is not only able to arrange competitive matches,
but she also negotiates endorsements and sponsorship, handles media requests and press conferences. Her array of skills makes
her a promoter’s dream because she is truly a one-stop shop.
Aiken will be the first to tell you, “I wanted to do business a little differently—positively, professionally and honestly.” Her satisfaction
comes from two combatants giving their all in a good competitive match that fans can enjoy. In doing things differently, Aiken not only
ensures that boxers arrive at their shows safely and on time, but she sees to it that the same happens upon their departure. She doesn’t
believe her job is complete until her fighters’ flights have landed or they have driven home and are in their beds. Not surprisingly,
many of her projects have been the result of boxers recommending her to promoters.
For 2016 Aiken has decided to try her hand at Promotions. She feels after working for so many promoters matchmaking she knows
what to do and surely what not to do to be successful at it. Always a Diva, a well-known nickname, the Diva has decided to make a change
for 2016, revamping her company she is now Boss Lady Promotions LLC and is looking forward to exciting things to come for the future.
New Jersey was where she began as a boxing matchmaker and where she now has decided to promote. Trenton seemed like the ideal
location seeing that it was known as a boxing town. She wanted to revive Trenton. She wanted to concentrate on the children and the
community, providing a platform for children that might not readily get that opportunity. Being the promoter of the first pro /am show
NJ will host, it is exciting and as she says an honor!
In recent years she was actively involved with Thomas LaManna, a fighter and promoter of Rising Star Promotions. Although she is
still independent, her goal was to help Rising Star reach its highest plateau. Daniel Gonzalez, manager of Kurt Scoby, a fighter also has
been intricate with that process as well has enlisting Aiken to administratively help with the career of Scoby who fought on show box
February 17,2023 in Topeka Kansas as the first television bout. Aiken traveled with the team to Topeka and was excited to be a part of
the process. Presently Aiken is working with “Smokin Joe Frazier’s “ son Joe Frazier Jr. and his wife Mis Downing doing shows in Atlantic
City, New Jersey. As well as Sal Musumeci, This has been great. Boxing has been good to Aiken but it has not been an easy process
working in a male dominated industry. Aiken has seemed to be successful with all of the hurdles she had to overcome. Aiken vowed
2024 will be different. Aiken has decided to accept an exclusive deal with Teflon Promotions, the sky's the limit, truly finding a promoter
and promotional company that appreciates her value. Aiken looks forward to the future and can’t wait to embark on this new journey.
